[She also hasn’t spoken to him in the better part of a year. The last time she did, it was in the Library of Alexandria, and she was neither kind nor patient.]
[There’s a part of her that would be happy to leave it at that. To pretend that she didn’t piece together what happened in the battle with Kirei, to pretend that he wasn’t the one who saved them.]
[But she can’t, in good conscience. At some point, it’s no longer even about revenge——she’d likely be dead if it weren’t for Gilgamesh. Leon and Jusis would, too. And everyone who stormed Asgard.]
[So she swallows her pride and shows up at his house. She’s carrying a basket of tea and Japanese sweets as a goodwill gesture. There’s a knock on the door, and whenever she sees him the first thing she’ll say is:]
I wanted to thank you. And make sure you’re okay. I don’t know what it was you did against Kirei——but i imagine it doesn’t come without cost.
[ Gilgamesh has mostly filed Rose into the same place he stores the rest of Vergil and Zulius' People: creatures that he has a periphery understanding of, but no particular interest in interacting with. he's not gone out of his way to find her again--especially not after the mouth she'd given him nearly a year ago, but he also doesn't see a point in antagonizing her because it'll just make the people he actually cares about fussy.
so imagine his surprise when she shows up on his doorstep--in his doorstep--with a little basket of goodies and a weird look on her face. he takes a minute to carefully put his body back on (Vergil's sleeping, he doesn't need the energy right now) and open the door.
he is wearing pants. thank whatever God you might believe in. ]
Well, I killed him, to put it simply. [ it's... very matter of fact. almost patient, as if he believes that Rose is under the impression that somebody cuffed Kirei and carted him off to the asshole section of jail. ]
... I am fine. My Master needs a majority of our shared energy to recuperate, but I will ultimately be fine.
[Rose feels much the same way about Gilgamesh that he does her. As someone important to Zulius—-and Vergil—-she has a certain amount of respect. It’s not a lot, but it’s there.]
[It occurs to her that, because she made this house call on a whim—-that she’s lucky he’s clothed. But she didn’t want to call ahead; there’s a good chance she’d lose her nerve, and even if she didn’t, whatever she said would probably come out nastier than she intended.]
I am aware of that. If he was able to survive—-whatever that blast of energy was—-we would have a much different problem on our hands.
[A problem named Kirei Kotomine.]
Fine, but should you need it, don’t hesitate to call on me for healing. And——-
[She takes a deep breath. It’s hard, to give up her pride like this, and to admit that she’s been an asshole for no reason other than she felt like it.]
I’d like to apologize for the last time we spoke. I thought you reminded me of someone from my previous life, but I was wrong. None of us would have survived if you hadn’t acted.
[ it's a stretch to call it respect, but there's a certain... neutrality that Gilgamesh feels towards Rose.
and it could always be worse. it could be dislike.
he folds his arms as he leans in the doorway, waiting for the woman to get to her point, tipping his head a little as she rambles and roves. she seems to have most of it, and for a moment, Gilgamesh thinks about letting her squirm--dangling on her own sincerity with his usual flat-eyed expression.
... but perhaps he's in a mood. a fit of humor. ]
My Noble Phantasm. It's the strongest blow a Servant can strike--and the King's blow happens to be stronger than most.
Kirei Kotomine once kept company with Archer, so I'm still mildly surprised that he fell victim to such an obvious ploy.
[ he gives a little wave at the offer for healing, starting to respond-- ] Feed Vittore the energy, it will come 'round to me through him--
[ and then she bulldozes through her apology and he has to stand there for a moment, mildly stunned. is he dying? is that why everyone's suddenly figured out being vaguely pleasant to him? subtly, he pinches himself. ]
I am only ever myself. Not the Archer that Kotomine knew. A reborn fragment of the man that is Gilgamesh, but ever only myself.
... perhaps I've come to view you people as my own, to some degree. [ one admission for another. a fair enough trade. ] It's perplexing how displeased seeing the Bean Man fall made me feel.
